Sunset

sinking gently the sun slips
through the gradually reddening horizon
lighting like fire the clouds hanging
motionless, suspended high in the sky

lower the reddening sun sinks
growing, ballooning into the night
before it's extinguished by the ground
which will soon envelope it for another day

is this noon I see again?
as an orange glow shines around
the final rays up-light the clouds
and give this day one final bow

but that was it, and the auburn sky fades
into a dark blue murky abyss
day is gone for now, but wait
for the stage is set for a brilliant night
